1. Walking Around Mina

Photography Series, 2024“Walking Around Mina” is a documentary photoessay that investigates the warehouse portion of Mina Zayed in Abu Dhabi, currently being re-developed into a community hub called MiZa. These decommissioned warehouses formerly functioned as storage spaces, offices and shops for various businesses in the city. Not much is publicly available for research on these businesses, how long they stayed, why they all left, and what was left behind.
This photo-series is an attempt to understand this transitional phase of the wider Mina Zayed area undergoing a massive re-development phase since 2021. Walking through each warehouse, spirals that seem to not make sense are revealed to be tags for demolition. Further investigations inside one of these warehouses reveal traces of what was once there, who was once there, and why they left.

This project was initiated in the VIS39605
Photographic Essay course at the American University of Sharjah in 2024, mentored by Professor Philip Sheil.
