2. Abu Dhabi (Dis)connected

Exhibition identity and design, 2025    Abu Dhabi is a city in motion, where roads carve through the landscape, stitching together spaces yet unravelling the social fabric that once bound its neighbourhoods. In this ever-expanding urban grid, connection and disconnection exist in delicate tension.
“Abu Dhabi (Dis)connected” delves into the intricate relationship between roads and people, exploring how infrastructure enables, limits, unites, and divides, creating a city where movement is both freedom and constraint. This exhibition follows on from a research project and exhibition by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) in collaboration with Abu Dhabi University, managed by the LSE Middle East Centre and funded by the Emirates Foundation.
In addition to collected research, MamarLab extends the discourse by incorporating artistic interpretations from Eman AlHashemi, Sara Dhafer, and Khaled Esguerra that bring a human-centred dimension to the empirical findings. Engaging with artists from Abu Dhabi, whose practices critically reflect on themes of spatial fragmentation, memory, and lived experience, “Abu Dhabi (Dis)connected” creates a dialogue between data-driven analysis and subjective, affective responses to the city’s evolving landscape.
