5. I Just Need to Keep Moving

Photography series, 2021Published under SWALIF’s “Encapsulated Vol. 1: Photoessays on Khaleejiness” (2021), “I Just Need to Keep Moving” is a series on wandering between spaces in search of identity, as well as a practice of identity. The ever-so-feverish need to be on a constant state of motion, not only to desperately establish notions of home but notions of the self, has felt mandatory for survival to me for years.
The more I question where I claim I’m from, and who I claim I am, the more I have felt the need to keep up with the pace of the space around me.
All of these photographs were shot in Electra Street in Abu Dhabi, which I had the privilege to grow up in for 10 years. It was only right for me to explore the space I was most familiar with, and what I consider to be the heart of Abu Dhabi itself. It is as much of an ode to Electra’s community as it is to the self.
